Anyone acquainted with the rudiments of
Japanese culture is most likely familiar
with hanami, in which people hold big outdoor drinking parties
against the backdrop of the beautifully blossoming sakura trees.
What's comparatively less known is that it has an autumn counterpart
as well. Momiji is the term for going out to view the beautiful red
leaves, and according to Seven, Kyouto is particularly famed for
them, which is why we were swarmed with (Japanese) tourists a couple
of weeks ago. Like many things in Japan, it's really just an excuse
to get out and spend some time with friends, and truly, what more
could you ask of a Sunday afternoon?
